Cancer—you can’t seem to swing a dead
chicken without hitting someone who has cancer, is in recovery or a survivor. Well, quite unexpectedly one of those people
is me. Arriving in Perth just before
Christmas, I expected to be here until the 18th of January. Now I’m not sure when I’ll return to Peru but
with good luck, I might just make it back for the start of Adopt A School for
2013—the 20th anniversary of the program.
I will be staying on with James in
Perth to seek my surgery and follow-up treatment. So far the medical system here has been great
and very responsive. From what I can
tell there is little difference in quality of care and service, yet prices seem
very reasonable and transparent. I will,
of course, be living with James during this time and he and his family will
help out with my care and doctor appointments. (I haven’t learned to drive on
the left side of the road yet--a little scary--but it must be faced soon! :)
So another adventure begins—this time
in Australia. I daily count my blessings,
opportunities, family and the many friends around the world who have already jumped in to
offer their support and encouragement. I
will work on-line from here on all things CONAPAC, as others in Peru do what they can in
my absence. I expect that our programs
will continue without disruption and all will be well when I return to Iquitos
later in the spring. I’ll update progress on my blog as this adventure for 2013 unfolds.
Peace, love and joy—and above all,
acceptance!
